Water is not…
Happy Holidays Friends,
It has been said that “the gift of water is the gift of life.” We humbly disagree. Access to water is a human right, and should never be considered a “gift.” Our work in Haiti supports communities fighting a changing climate that they did not cause. What we do is not a gift – nor is it charity – it is simply the right thing to do.
In turn, we need your support to continue doing what we do – building critical infrastructure that provides a long-term solution to people on the verge of becoming climate refugees.
As you well understand, these past two years have been quite a ride … but for our team in Haiti, things have been particularly difficult and chaotic.
In addition to a global pandemic, in just the past six months, Haiti has faced deep political crises and violence, a Presidential assassination, an earthquake killing over 3,000 people (immediately followed by a severe tropical storm), rampant kidnappings and markedly increased gang activity. Despite these challenges – and many more – our team continues to exceed all reasonable expectations.
Key accomplishments since the start of the pandemic:
· 17 rainwater harvesting systems built
· 1580 handwashing stations built
· COVID awareness campaigns in all 64 villages of our project area
Benefits of Rainwater Harvesting:
· Improved community health
· Increased agricultural production
· Kids attend school more regularly
Project characteristics:
· Our work is community driven
· All materials are purchased locally
· $700 per system is paid in local employment
Thank you for helping us reach our 2021 goal!
Sincerely,
Jesse Baker, Executive Director
